New Low Maintenance, Eco-Friendly Generator—Like the Car—Runs on Air GIMM, Inc.’s Technology Cuts Costs and Emissions
FREMONT, CA—GIMM Inc, which debuted a proof-of concept compressed air car last fall, has introduced a compressed air generator that will provide similar cost-savings and environmental benefits across the manufacturing sector and wherever prime power, back-up or uninterruptible power is needed.
The MIIN-AER generator line runs from 1,000 watts to 10kW, with customized units of up to 50kW. It uses a simple multi-chambered motor with only six moving parts, thus requires none of the maintenance of a gas, natural gas, diesel or propane generator. Its trademarked energy-recovery system is emission free, enhancing workplace health and well being.
“Our new generator can slash the cost of compressed-air operations, which always eat up a big part of any manufacturer’s budget,” said GIMM, Inc. CEO Glenn Bell. “It can also leverage and enhance existing equipment. It doesn’t require any new infrastructure.”
Available in 110v AC, 220v AC, 50 or 60 Hz, the generator can be used with existing pneumatic infrastructure and it will automatically refill existing compressed air storage tanks in the event of a power outage. Its one-year warranty is four times longer than most because of its few moving parts. The generator also avoids the cost and maintenance of traditional generators’ fuel degradation. Its air tank requires recertification once every five years.
Operating off the grid, the MIIN-AER generator is ideal for back-up power in hospitals and other critical environments and for data processing centers and the like requiring an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). It can double as a storage unit for renewable energies such as wind and solar, an application with increasing demand as industry adapts to more stringent state and federal air quality requirements.
The new generator uses the same MIIN-AER system that drives GIMM’s compressed air car, a converted Porsche Boxster that drew much media and consumer attention when it was unveiled at the 2008 AltCar Expo in Santa Monica, CA.
“Whether used for a car, a generator or a high-pressure storage system, the MIIN-AER generator is a superior solution,” Bell said. “It’s one more step toward our company’s long term goals. Eventually we want to supply utility-scale energy storage systems to help utilities meet peak demand with renewable energies that generate most of their power off-peak.” The new MIIN-AER generator is now available from GIMM, which also provides energy efficiency consulting services to help business and industry use alternative energy more cost effectively.
